Two Texas legends come together on this unique CD, showcasing the best music the Lone Star State has to offer. Hailed as the post-modern kings of Western swing, Asleep at the Wheel has won nine Grammy Awards over the past four decades and worked with the likes of Bob Dylan, George Strait and the Dixie Chicks. It was only natural that frontman Ray Benson would soon turn to collaborating with the symphony orchestra to create what he calls “the best 63-member back up band a musician could ever ask for.” Always ready to try something new, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra – which in its star-studded history has shard the stage with Willie Nelson, Wynonna Judd, James Taylor and Michael Bolton, just to name a few – jumped at the chance to add the Wheel’s smash hits to its repertoire. The Wheel and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra first performed together in 2006 at Bass Performance Hall, and the show was a hit from the very first note. Executive producer Ann Koonsman says the minute she heard them performing together she knew they had to make a recording. The band returned for a second sold-out engagement with the full orchestra in 2007 that was recorded live and history, as they say, was made. As always, The Wheel just keeps rolling along…now with one of America’s favorite orchestras right alongside.
